The official Stargate convention was held by Creation Entertainment in Vancouver from the 2nd to the 5th of April The guest list this year included Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks, Paul McGillion, Joe Flanigan, Teryl Rothery, Andee Frizzell, Connor Trinneer, Robert Picardo, Dan Shea, Gary Jones, David Nykl and producers Mr N John Smith, Brad Wright and Robert Cooper there were also other guests panelists and lots of opportunities for fans to get autographs and professional photos with the guests. With this event report podcast, we're giving away anbsp; limited-edition F-302 screen-accurate replica created directly from the Stargate SG-1 CGI files and produced by Quantum Mechanix. The highly-detailed, hand-painted ship model has a wingspan of 8 inches and measures 4.5 inches from nose to engine exhaust (roughly 1/129th scale). The F-302 comes with a 9"x6" diorama modeled after the flight deck on Earth's first deep-space battleship, the Prometheus. When mounted on it's stand (the fighter can be removed), the F-302 is displayed on the verge of take off with gears down (but just starting to retract) and hovering over the flight deck.nbsp; Complete with standard armaments, the F-302 comes with four wing-mounted missiles and two nose-mounted rail guns. The two-man cockpit is visible through the clear canopy and all regulation markings are in place, including warning placards measuring as little as 2/16 of an inch. Fannish Inquistion: Is this your first visit to Australia? DN: Oh goodness no, this is my third visit to Australia, first time in Brisbane proper though, Irsquo;ve driven through on my way up the Sunshine coast but this is the first time Irsquo;ve had a chance to see your lovely city. FI: Do you enjoy attending events like this? DN: I love it, I love it. I get a chance to meet all the people that watch our show because when we do the show we show up at the studio, do the scenes and then go home and do the dishes so itrsquo;s very nice to see that people are watching and people are enjoying it so itrsquo;s a real pleasure. FI: Are there any stand out moments, good or bad, you have from attending a convention? DN: Irsquo;ve had some pretty crazyhellip; Irsquo;ve met some pretty fascinating fans from the world over but I guess there was that time in Prague when I was recognised in a menrsquo;s urinal. Oh! There was a time in a convention in Sydney when I was trapped in an elevator with a bunch of fans, that was a lot of fun. FI: Do you have any advice for fans attending a convention for the first time? DN: Wear comfortable shoes, and bring lots of money [laughs] and have fun, these things are great, these things are a lot of fun for the fans. FI: In Atlantis you play Dr Zelenka who wasnrsquo;t originally intended to be a regular character, were you surprised when they wanted to bring him back? DN: Yes, I was surprised. I was pleasantly surprised. You hear quite often as an actor the possibility of a role recurring or being brought back and you have to sometimes take that with a grain of salt because that doesnrsquo;t always happen but when it does itrsquo;s a real pleasure to have that happen so I consider myself quite lucky. FI: What do you like most about the character? DN: Ahh, I think hersquo;s just so good looking [laughs]. The chance that hersquo;s had to develop over the last few seasons has been really good to work on Irsquo;ve really enjoyed that. interaction with all the other characters as well not just McKay. FI: Will we see much of Zelenka in season 5? DN: You will, itrsquo;ll be wall to wall Zelenka, from pillar to post, from ceiling to floor, nothing but Zelenka all the time. As a matter of fact therersquo;s a whole episode devoted just to Zelenka standing around going ldquo;Where did everybody gohellip; heyhellip;rdquo; No, Irsquo;m kidding. FI: Are there any significant character developments? DN: We learn a lot about his propensity for a particular fruit, that good enough? I donrsquo;t want to give away too much.
