“In Your Eyes” with Joss Whedon

It’s fair to say if you haven’t heard about Joss Whedon’s “Avengers” movie which is due for release soon then you’ve been living under a rock, there’s also the long awaited “Cabin in the Woods”, there’s “Much Ado About Nothing” jam packed with Whedonverse actors including Nathan Fillion, Amy Acker, Sean Maher and more.. but how much do we know about the Joss Whedon produced sci-fi romance “In Your Eyes”?

Until today perhaps not a great deal but our friends over at MovieHole have the scoop!

I know there’s not much out there in terms of what this new Brin Hill directed- Joss Whedon produced movie “In Your Eyes” is about. Yeah, we’ve heard it’s a supernatural romance. It might also have been mentioned that it’s about people who are strangely connected. And all that is indeed true, but there’s something crafty simmering away in Whedon’s screenplay – something ‘best episodes of Buffy’ brilliant about it.

Flick is a love story, not unlike the classic “Somewhere in Time”, where two people – played by Zoe Kazan and Michael Stahl-David – from different worlds and different GPS marks find themselves magically linked… read more >

The Most Amazing Science Fiction Story… Ever!

This is such a fantastic sci fi story, with one small twist!

During the 1960-1970s Doctor Who broadcaster BBC decided to trash a pile of Doctor Who episodes for “space saving reasons”. Sadly there’s no known copy of these episodes leaving a big hole in the longest running science fiction series ever broadcast on television. There are 27 incomplete episodes and a total of 106 out of 253 episodes from the first six years that are completely missing.

I don’t know about you but sometimes I look back on my life and regret throwing out stuff that I would have loved to be able to look back on today, in particular I remember some stories I wrote in my English class that my teacher praised (a very very rare event for me!) that I would love to have re-read as an adult and I’m sure that looking back now the BBC realises they couldn’t have made a bigger mistake than discarding those Doctor Who episodes. Star Trek: The Next Generation Blu Ray

For some time now a team of experts have been hard at work remastering episodes of Star Trek: Then Next Generation. When I heard there was a new blu ray edition coming out I wasn’t overly excited, I mean, we all own the DVDs already right? It wasn’t until I saw the side-by-side comparison video from the pilot episode “Encounter at Farpoint” that I realised it was way beyond what I had imagined it would be, you have to watch the video to see just how much better it’s going to be. Doctor Who: Symphonic Spectacular

MSO 2012 – Doctor Who: Symphonic Spectacular

February 4, 2012
Melbourne, Australia

… dum be de dum   dum be de dum   dum be de dum    dum be de dum  …
…. dum be de oooooooooh eeee oooh ooooooooh …

Perhaps the most recognized sci fi theme music today has been through many incarnations since it was first produced in the 60s and it’s hardly any surprise that when the first Doctor Who orchestral event was held in the UK it was a tremendous success. Doctor Who at the Proms has become a much anticipated event for those in the UK but now fans in Australia can get their fix too!

For the first time ever Australians will be treated to a Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra featuring the music of Murray Golds from the Matt Smith’s seasons of Doctor Who. Ben Foster who conducts the music used in the series and features in the Doctor Who live performances in the UK will be travelling to Australia to lead the orchestra.

The musical celebration will feature specially produced video projected onto large screens and a host of live monsters including Darleks, Cybermen and The Silence will invade the audience.

American actor Mark Sheppard who has guest starred in two episodes of the latest season of Doctor Who (and has also appeared in pretty much every science fiction franchise at some time or another) is travelling to Australia to host the event.

There will be just two performances in Australia, both held in Melbourne on Saturday February 4th, the first at 2pm and then again at 7pm at the Plenary Hall, Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Limited tickets are still available via TicketMaster | 2pm performance | 7pm performance |

If you’d like to know what to expect, below is an official BBC video of part of the most recent event…

Amanta Tapping Convention, UK

In September 2002 four fans of Amanda Tapping invested their own personal money and started up a non-profit company called GABIT Events Limited with the primary objective of bringing Amanda Tapping to London for a special event with her very own fans. GABIT held their first event in October 2005 and have since held 4 more very successful events in the UK and 2 in Vancouver, Canada (Sanctuary Experience & Meet the Man, Richard Dean Anderson).

GABIT Events focus on ensuring all involved have a full, enjoyable experience and all proceeds are donated to charity.

The next GABIT event is AT6, the sixth (obviously!) Amanda Tapping Convention held in London, UK.  Registration is currently open via their website where you can also find out more about who they are.

AT6 ~ Ripples will be held November 9-11 at the Renaissance Hotel Heathrow.

Castle Fans Raise $20,000 for Charity

It’s a well known fact that “fans” often earn their name. Fanatical individuals obsessing over the smallest details of their favorite show or actor, voicing their usually strong opinions loud and frequently, running campaigns for things they’d like to see happen, getting angry over things they disagree with, expressing somewhat obsessive love and admiration for the creative souls behind the object of their affection…

Fans often develop a bad reputation. The most aggressive usually the loudest forcing their opinion on anyone who’ll listen. Get a group of fans riled up and they can be a force to feared but give them a worthwhile cause to support and they just might surprise you.

Late last year CastleTV.net in association with the California Browncoats hosted a Castle Fan Charity Convention in Los Angeles. The event was attended by members of the cast and crew including showrunner Andrew Marlowe. While attendance was low the group raised a phenomenal $15,746.46 for 4 charities nominated by the guests.  Regular and guest cast members Seamus and Juliana Dever gave up time during their vacation to Australia to meet with fans in Sydney and Melbourne and between the two cities they raised further $4,513.14 bringing the total to over $20,000.

Congratulations to all involved… cast, crew, donors and event attendees.
